Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)

Do You Have Prior Learning or Experience?

At Bay River College, we recognize that students may have gained valuable knowledge and skills through previous education, employment, training, volunteer work, or other learning experiences.

Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) allows eligible students to demonstrate that their previous learning meets the learning outcomes of an eligible course.

How to Request PLAR

Step 1 – Check Eligibility
After you are accepted into your program, review the course learning outcomes and confirm whether the course is eligible for PLAR.

Step 2 – Prepare Your Documents
Provide evidence of your prior learning, such as transcripts, certificates, training records, employment experience, résumé, portfolio, or other relevant documentation.

Step 3 – Submit Your Request
Complete the Bay River College PLAR Request Document and submit it with your supporting documents. Your request will be reviewed by the appropriate academic department.

Step 4 – Pay the PLAR Fee

PLAR fees are separate from regular course tuition.

Please contact the Bay River College Registrar’s Office or Admissions Department for the applicable fee for your course and program.

Step 5 – Receive Your Result
If you successfully demonstrate that your prior learning meets the required course learning outcomes, the course will be recognized on your academic record in accordance with Bay River College policies.

Important

Not all courses are eligible for PLAR. Previous experience does not automatically qualify for course recognition. Students must demonstrate that their prior learning meets the required course learning outcomes.
